The killer Hasina’s loyalist, Fizar, has focused more on his own development than on the progress of the people.

Fizar, an eight-time Member of Parliament from Dinajpur-5, served as the Minister of Primary and Mass Education during the 2014-2019 tenure of the Awami League government. Before that, he held the positions of State Minister for the Ministry of Forest and Environment and the Ministry of Land. Fizar has also served as the president and general secretary of the Dinajpur District Awami League for a long time. He was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Dinajpur-5 in 1986. Most recently, he was re-elected as an MP in the 2024 general elections. In addition to his ministerial role, he has served on various parliamentary committees. He passed away on September 29, 2024, at 8 p.m. while receiving treatment at LabAid Hospital in Dhaka.

Fizar’s family has turned several businesses, including recruitment trading, contracting, school and college committees, and insurance businesses, into their family ventures. These businesses are run in the names of his wife and brothers. Almost all of the minister’s wealth has come from recruitment trading and various commissions. It is alleged that his wife, Rehina Rahman Moynai, takes money in connection with recruitment matters. After Fizar became the Minister of Primary and Mass Education, his brother, Mushfiqur Rahman Babul, opened branches of Sunrise and Progressive Insurance in Fulbari, where teachers from nearly every school were forced to purchase insurance. This way, they collected millions of taka. Another of his brothers, Mohammad Imamul, took over all the work of digging canals for the Water Development Board, earning millions in the process.

Shibli Sadiq, the Member of Parliament from Dinajpur-6, has accused Fizar of being behind the allegations of land grabbing from the Santal people and the Forest Department.
