Syndicate Empire Behind the Mask of an Information Officer: Aslam Accused of Lobbying and Corruption Worth Crores!

Mir Mohammad Aslam Uddin, a 20th BCS Information Cadre officer, served as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the Ministry of Power and Energy for 11 years. Recently, he was removed from the ministry following serious corruption allegations involving the misuse of power and financial misconduct.

Key Allegations:

  • Despite being an information officer, he allegedly ran a syndicate that used lobbying and commission deals to earn illegal income worth crores of Taka.
  • He held the position of board director at Rupantarita Gas Company Limited (RGCL), which was unusual for someone in his role.
  • He frequently used the name of former State Minister for Power, Nasrul Hamid, to lobby for appointments and contracts in various power and energy-related companies.
  • He formed a syndicate with his university friends and 20th BCS batchmates, many of whom he placed in key positions.
  • Former leaders of the Awami League and Chhatra League who studied with him were also part of this network.
  • Several of his friends were appointed as directors of different companies, allowing the syndicate to grab major shares of business contracts.
  • The group also allegedly owned multiple companies—some under fake or borrowed names—to benefit financially.
  • If any managing director or official resisted this syndicate’s influence, Aslam would publish negative reports in little-known online portals or newspapers to pressure them. Later, he would arrange “settlements” using the same journalists and gain business favors in return.

These activities paint a picture of a powerful internal network manipulating government resources and positions for personal gain.
