Nurul Islam Sujan, the son of corruption in the railways, is a servant bought by Hasina, involved in irregularities, corruption, and abuse of power.

In 2008, he was first elected as a Member of Parliament in the 9th National Parliament. After being elected as an MP three times in a row, he took the oath as the Minister of Railways on January 7, 2019. He was even a lawyer in the Bangabandhu assassination case. Former Railway Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan was arrested in a case at Jatrabari Police Station. He faces multiple cases, including a murder case, as well as accusations of irregularities and corruption. He was arrested by the police on the night of September 16 from Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Shyamoli, Dhaka.

Minister of Railways Nurul Islam Sujan had absolute control in his ministry. His word was the final word, and everything was done at his command. Through his influence and power, he kept everyone under control. After taking office in 2019, the Ministry of Railways became involved in scandals. Irregularities, corruption, and abuse of power marked his tenure, and he constantly demonstrated his strength. While in office, he was focused on railway projects in Panchagarh, neglecting work in other areas. Political considerations and the advice of contractors influenced the selection of projects. He committed various irregularities and corrupt practices, often acting at the suggestion of his wife.

During the previous government’s long tenure, nearly 3 lakh crore taka worth of railway projects were taken up, with large sums being looted from allocated funds. There are currently 29 ongoing projects in the railway sector, including property grab, tender manipulation, and recruitment and transfer businesses. Corruption worth hundreds of crores of taka occurred in almost every sector. Under high-level directives, the duration and cost of most projects were increased.

Within three years of taking office, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan launched 11 new projects. However, none of them were completed during his tenure. Additionally, he developed a connection with a ticket-selling company called “Sahaj Dotcom.” The government also lost 650 crore taka on DEMU trains, which are now abandoned in the jungle. The entire process, from purchasing to operating these trains, was filled with irregularities and corruption.

Nurul Islam Sujan, within three years of taking office, launched 11 new projects. None of them were completed during his tenure. He also formed a close relationship with the ticket sales company Sahaj Dotcom. Moreover, the government lost 650 crore taka on DEMU trains, which are now left abandoned in the jungle. The entire process, from purchasing to operation, was marred by corruption and irregularities.

Mohammad Moniruzzaman Monir, the central president of the Bangladesh Railway Employees Society, said that during Nurul Islam Sujan’s tenure, nearly 6,000 people were illegally recruited in the railway sector without amending the recruitment rules of 2020. His wife Shammi and PS Rasheed collected large sums of money from recruitment candidates in exchange for jobs.
