On August 5, a case was filed by Md. Sujan, the elder brother of the murdered Asaduzzaman Noor (Surya), accusing Shibli Sadiq of burning two young men to death at the house of former mayor Jamil Hossain in Hakimpur municipal town. On August 19, Sujan filed the case at Hakimpur police station. In 2022, on March 31, a man named Robiul Islam filed a case at Nawabganj police station, accusing former local MP Shibli Sadiq, two former upazila chairmen, and several Awami League leaders and activists of killing three people.

There have been allegations against Shibli Sadiq, the Awami League MP for Dinajpur-6, and his relatives for land grabbing from the Santal community. The indigenous people claim that during the 16 years of the Awami League’s rule, Shibli Sadiq and his uncle, the former chairman of the district council, Delwar Hossain, seized nearly 150 acres of their land. They allegedly grabbed both the indigenous people’s land and government khas (public) land, building a picnic spot called ‘Swapnopuri’ in the process. Despite the fall of the Awami League government, the influence of the MP and his family has not diminished.

The bank accounts of Shibli Sadiq, the former MP for Dinajpur-6 (Hakimpur), have been seized. Additionally, the bank accounts and transactions of his wife, children, and business interests have been suspended. On Thursday, August 22, Bangladesh’s Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) issued instructions to banks and financial institutions to seize the accounts.
