There are allegations of corruption and irregularities against Banusree M. Yusuf, the Additional Director-General of the Narcotics Control Department of Bangladesh. In 2021, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) approved a charge sheet against 11 people, including 7 doctors, for corruption in purchasing goods at the Azimpur Maternity and Child Health Training Institute in Dhaka. Banusree M. Yusuf’s name was not mentioned in the case, but the allegations were made against the concerned officials.
The allegations include that during the 2014-15 fiscal year, procurement of medicines and surgical items violated the Public Procurement Rules of 2008. The items were purchased based on an arbitrary and baseless price set by a market committee, without considering the approved prices set by the Medical and Equipment Regulatory Authority and the Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Additionally, there have been allegations against officials of Bashir Uddin University (Bashemor University) regarding tender manipulation, irregularities in admissions, appointments after the age limit had expired, issuing certificates on substandard paper, irregularities in furniture purchases, and the construction of two water treatment plants with huge sums of money. There are also claims of money being raised without constructing a mural of Bangabandhu in the university.
The ACC is continuing its investigation into these allegations and legal action is being taken against those involved.
