After President Mohammad Shahabuddin took office in 2023, he made a significant change by transferring Monirul Islam, the Assistant Private Secretary (APS) to former President Iajuddin Ahmed during the BNP government, to the OSD (Officer on Special Duty) post. In his place, he appointed Azizul Haque Mamun, a former central vice president of the Chhatra League, who was controversially recruited to the BCS cadre under the “Freedom Fighter Quota.”

Azizul Haque Mamun has been at the center of several controversies, including an incident at Baridem Hospital where police officer Sanjida’s alleged lover, another police officer named Harun Ur Rashid, was reportedly beaten by Chhatra League activists. Multiple intelligence agencies are investigating both allegations. Additionally, Azizul is accused of corruption related to the construction of houses under Sheikh Hasina’s Ashrayan Project. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is currently investigating this matter.

Recently, Azizul Haque Mamun’s name has been linked to an incident on the night of September 9, 2023, when two central Chhatra League leaders were reportedly tortured at Shahbagh police station. The incident began at Baridem Hospital, where Mamun’s presence and behavior caused significant controversy. The DMP Commissioner, Khondkar Golam Faruk, has confirmed that an investigation into this incident is ongoing.
