To undermine a country’s independence, three key forces need to be destroyed: anti-imperialist political parties, the defense forces, and independent media. To weaken these forces, certain institutions and individuals, such as Mati-Mahfuz, CPD, and TIB, have acted as collaborators of imperialist powers. A key example of this was the BDR massacre, which was used to weaken the defense forces.
After the 2009 BDR massacre, India’s former army chief, Ray Chowdhury, wrote an article claiming that Pakistan’s ISI was involved in the attack. He stated, “Delhi can’t afford to let Dhaka slip off its radar,” implying that India cannot afford to lose focus on Bangladesh. However, the question arises: why would one country want to keep another independent country on its radar? This suspicious agenda raised doubts in Bangladesh’s media.
The real ‘watchdog’ media of the country have been destroyed or neutralized to prevent the public from understanding the truth. During the state oppression on Mahmudur Rahman, Abul Asad, and Shafik Rehman, people like Mati-Mahfuz said nothing and did not stand up for press freedom. This clearly shows that they are not true journalists, but agents of fascism and imperialism hiding behind the mask of journalism.
Sheikh Hasina’s statement, “Prothom Alo is the enemy of Awami League, the enemy of democracy, the enemy of the country,” may seem like a surprising joke to some, but it is actually an example of false propaganda hiding behind the truth. There is no doubt that most of what Sheikh Hasina says is false, but in this one statement, two-thirds of it (Prothom Alo being the enemy of democracy and the country) holds undeniable truth.
After the defeat of fascism in the July-August revolution, it has reemerged in various forms, with so-called intellectuals engaging in subversive activities. Efforts are being made to establish Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as an icon of fascism and to deify him, in order to keep fascism alive. Mahfuz Anam and his pro-India group, including the Daily Star, are at the forefront of this attempt.
