Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tonmoy, former Member of Parliament (MP) from Bagerhat-2 and a member of Sheikh Hasina’s extended family, has recently faced serious allegations of corruption and misconduct.
- In August 2024, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) froze the bank accounts of Tonmoy and his family members as part of an investigation into financial irregularities.
- There have also been cases of identity fraud involving his name. A prison guard from Kashimpur Jail was caught pretending to be Tonmoy, using his identity to influence government officials and secure job positions.
- Additionally, the Bagerhat District unit of BNP organized protests and human chains demanding the arrest and punishment (even capital punishment) of Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Helal, Sheikh Tonmoy, and Mir Badsha, accusing them of corruption and abuse of power.
