Saida Muna Tasneem is a Bangladeshi diplomat who served as the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the United Kingdom from November 30, 2018, to December 26, 2024. She was the first woman appointed to this position. Before this, she served as Bangladesh’s ambassador to Thailand and Cambodia. As a career diplomat, she also held various important roles at Bangladesh’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the Bangladesh High Commission in London.
During her tenure in London, allegations arose that the Bangladesh High Commission was being used like a political office for the Awami League, which caused controversy among the Bangladeshi diaspora in the UK. On August 5, 2024, after the fall of the Awami League government, BNP-Jamaat supporters reportedly entered the High Commission and took down a portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. A video circulated on social media showed Saida Muna Tasneem giving a speech during the incident.
Following the takeover by the interim government on September 30, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to recall her to Dhaka as part of an administrative reshuffle. An official order instructed her to immediately hand over her responsibilities in London and return to Dhaka.
