Ahsan Kibria Siddique, who was serving as a Director in the ‘Prime Minister’s Office’ (now the Office of the Chief Advisor) during the autocratic rule, managed to secure a promotion and became the ‘Director General’ in the Office of the Chief Advisor. After the interim government, led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, took the oath, there was widespread controversy regarding the appointment of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and promotions in the local administration. Ahsan Kibria Siddique was at the center of this controversy. He wielded significant influence in the administration from the Office of the Chief Advisor, where he was seen pulling the strings.
It was alleged that he was involved in rehabilitating many influential Awami League officials, who were part of Sheikh Hasina’s corrupt network, into the interim government’s administration. Amid this controversy, he was transferred to the Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance on October 22. Both Ahsan Kibria Siddique and Imrul Kayes, officials of Sheikh Hasina’s office, were former student leaders of the Chhatra League at Jahangirnagar University.
The interim government took nearly two and a half months to transfer this controversial figure, and even then, many officials who had suffered under his oppression for the past 15 years expressed their satisfaction over his transfer.
