Sheikh Helal Uddin, who is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s cousin and a former Member of Parliament for Bagerhat-1, has been accused of corruption during Sheikh Hasina’s time in power. In March 2025, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed two cases against him.

• Illegal Wealth: Sheikh Helal is accused of having illegally acquired over 64.5 million Bangladeshi Taka.
• Suspicious Transactions: From 2015 to 2024, there were suspicious transactions worth over 535 million Taka in seven bank accounts under his name.
• Allegations Against His Wife: His wife, Sheikh Rupa Chowdhury, is also accused of illegally acquiring about 68.2 million Taka.

Additionally, in August 2024, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) froze the bank accounts of Sheikh Helal, his wife, and his son Sheikh Tonmoy for 30 days under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.
