Serial No. 164: Admiral Z. U. Ahmed (Retired) was a loyal and trusted follower of authoritarian leader Sheikh Hasina and the notorious Major General Tarique Siddique. He played a key role in bringing politics into the Bangladesh Navy.

Under his leadership, many patriotic officers who held anti-Awami League views were unfairly removed from service or had their careers and lives ruined. He also initiated large-scale financial corruption in the Navy through procurement deals.

It is alleged that he took massive amounts of money from officers in exchange for promotions. His total corruption is estimated to be over 1,500 crore Bangladeshi Taka. Known for being a womanizer, he was also the so-called godfather of the infamous Rear Admiral Sohail.
