MM Imrul Kayes, a former Deputy Press Secretary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was considered very loyal to her. He was part of the 27th batch of the BCS (Radio Cadre) and after Hasina’s fall from power, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Secretary and transferred to the Local Government Division. Imrul Kayes, along with Ahsan Kibria Siddiqui, was also known to have been involved with the Chhatra League at Jahangirnagar University. After the interim government was formed, officials from the former Prime Minister’s Press Wing remained active. Even after being removed, they continue to influence the current government in various ways, including leaking sensitive state information to foreign media and pro-Awami League media cells, in an attempt to discredit the current government.
While serving as Deputy Press Secretary to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Imrul Kayes faced several allegations of corruption and misconduct:
1. Bribery and Embezzlement
Imrul Kayes has been accused of taking bribes while performing his government duties. Specifically, he allegedly embezzled funds allocated for government projects, using his position for personal gain.
2. Employment Trade
He is also accused of engaging in illegal practices related to recruitment in the Ministry of Health and Education. His name is linked to the approval of nursing colleges and institutes, where there are claims of financial transactions for getting approvals.
3. Misuse of Privileges and Overstepping Authority
Additionally, he has been accused of using government office facilities for personal benefit, which goes against government policies. There are further allegations that he influenced government decisions for his personal gain.
4. Investigation of Allegations
The allegations against Imrul Kayes are currently under investigation. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and other relevant authorities are looking into the matter, and legal actions will be taken if the allegations are proven true.
