Mohammad Nazmul Huda is currently serving as the Consul General of Bangladesh in New York. On December 6, 2023, he participated in a discussion meeting with journalists and media professionals from print, online, and electronic platforms in New York. During the meeting, he spoke about improving consular services, protecting the interests of Bangladeshi expatriates, and the role of the media in promoting Bangladesh’s development activities. He emphasized that enhancing the country’s image abroad, promoting economic diplomacy, and ensuring citizen-friendly diplomacy are the key goals of his mission in New York.
Earlier, on September 28, 2023, a person named Siddiqui Nazmul Alam publicly told U.S. Ambassador Peter Haas to leave Bangladesh, accusing him of crossing diplomatic boundaries. He stated, “We are deeply concerned about your actions. You have already crossed your limits in Bangladesh. Remember, this is not 1975, it is 2023.”
Later, on November 4, 2024, the government decided to appoint new ambassadors to 21 missions, including the United States. Nazmul Huda’s name was not included in the new appointment list, which may indicate concerns or allegations against him.
On March 24, 2024, during an iftar event organized by the Bangladesh Society in New York, the organization’s president, Mohammad Rob Mia, accused Nazmul Huda of neglecting his duties in consular services. He stated that mobile consular camps, which used to be held on weekends in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx for the convenience of working expatriates, were discontinued after Nazmul Huda took office.
The Society had reached out to him several times to reinstate these services, but he reportedly did not cooperate. During Rob Mia’s speech, many attendees at the iftar gathering were heard chanting “shame, shame.”
