Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury is a former Finance Secretary of Bangladesh, former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), and currently the Chairman of Sonali Bank.
He joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (Audit and Accounts cadre) in 1984 and held several key positions such as Secretary of the Finance Division, Controller General of Accounts, and Controller General of Defence Finance.
In 2017, he received the Public Administration Award for his significant contribution to implementing e-governance in government financial management.
However, there has also been criticism during his long tenure.
One major complaint was that he stayed in top positions for nearly 10 years, which some colleagues felt blocked their own chances for promotion.
He was also accused of irregularities in foreign trips and not allowing other officials enough opportunities to go abroad for training or higher education.
There were further allegations that he supported including loopholes in tobacco control regulations in favor of tobacco companies.
However, none of these allegations have been proven through any official investigation or legal conclusion.
In summary, Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury is considered an important figure in Bangladesh’s administrative and financial history, but parts of his career have been surrounded by controversy and criticism.
