Brigadier Imrul Kayes is the brother of the late former Foreign Secretary and Ambassador, Mohammad Mizarul Kayes. BA-1956 Major General Mohammad Imrul Kayes (Retd), First Long Course, is a staunch loyalist and trusted ally of the authoritarian Sheikh Hasina and the notorious Major General Tariq Siddique. He was the former Director of CTIB, DGFI. On February 25, 2009, during the BDR massacre at Pilkhana, he was serving as the Director of DGFI. On that day, he positioned himself in the areas surrounding Pilkhana to prevent the army or any military officers from independently launching an operation at Pilkhana. While stationed there, he collected mobile footage of the killings from various civilians living nearby in exchange for money, and threatened those who provided the footage not to release it anywhere. Despite having a large amount of video evidence of the massacre, he never presented it during any investigations. As a reward, he was swiftly promoted to the rank of Major General. He is a hardcore fascist Awami League supporter and a strong opponent of the current interim government.
