Lieutenant General Md. Shahinul Haque – 20th Long Course. He proved his loyalty to the authoritarian Awami League government and became a trusted individual. As a reward, in December 2020, he was appointed as the GOC of the 9th Infantry Division in Savar. Later, in July 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement, the fascist Awami League government promoted him to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him as CGS (Chief of General Staff). Since then, Lieutenant General Shahinul has taken a firm stance against the anti-discrimination student movement.
On August 5, 2024, after the fall of the authoritarian Sheikh Hasina government, Lieutenant General Md. Shahinul Haque, Lieutenant General Saiful Alam, Lieutenant General Mujibur Rahman, notorious Major General Ziaul Ahsan, and Brigadier General Imran Hamid attempted a coup in the army. However, this attempt failed, and on August 6, 2024, the mentioned officers were transferred to different agencies, and Lieutenant General Shahinul was transferred to NDC (National Defence College). He held the position of CGS for less than a month, making it the shortest tenure in the history of the Bangladesh Army.
In November 2024, under the repressive rule of the fascist Awami League government, he was made the chairman of a special board to prepare a list for the promotion of officers who had been deprived of promotion for the past 15 years. Despite recommendations from other members of the board, Lieutenant General Shahinul decided to remove the names of officers who had opposed the authoritarian Awami League government in any way over the last 15 years. Additionally, he excluded the names of officers who had held important positions during the BNP government or whose family members were involved with opposition political parties to the authoritarian Awami League.
He is a staunch fascist Awami League supporter and a strong opponent of the current interim government. He remains in the army as part of the rehabilitation of traitors loyal to the authoritarian Awami League government.
