Toufik-e-Elahi Chowdhury was the advisor to Hasina on electricity, energy, and mineral resources from January 25, 2009, to November 29, 2023. He is one of the key figures who helped Hasina become an authoritarian. He is responsible for murder, vote theft, and depriving people of their rights. On September 10, 2024, he was arrested by the police from Gulshan in the capital.

He made an unfair deal with India’s Adani Group. Instead of providing a permanent solution for electricity, he created a temporary quick rental system to produce power, which made the sector weak. They had no experience or engineers, yet they were given the job of producing electricity through quick rentals and took away thousands of crores of money in return. He gave special privileges to the Summit Group, which took billions of taka and left Bangladesh for another country. He destroyed the electricity sector.
