Matiur Rahman, the editor of Prothom Alo, claims to advocate for social change, but in reality, his focus is on personal gain. The newspaper has been involved in political agendas and spreading biased, misleading, and anti-Islamic content, especially in the context of Bangladesh’s recent political events.
Matiur Rahman has faced legal action multiple times due to the false and intentional reporting of Prothom Alo. It is said that there is hardly any district court in the country where he has not been summoned for his newspaper’s mistakes. He is accused of being the mastermind behind massive corruption worth billions of taka.
Prothom Alo claims to collect donations for social welfare through its trust, but there have been widespread allegations about the misuse of these funds, with a lack of transparency and accountability. Matiur Rahman, as the manager of the trust, holds his position due to a clause he included in the trust’s constitution, ensuring no other member can act against his will.
Matiur Rahman’s son, Mahmudur Rahman Shasa, is also influential in business, running companies like Annex Communication Limited and SSLE (Software Solutions and Logistics Enterprise), which provide IT solutions and mobile content services. Through his father’s influence at Prothom Alo, Shasa secures lucrative contracts, including handling SMS services for ABC Radio. He is also known for using Prothom Alo’s power to pressure others in business disputes and spending time in luxury hotels.
